And why we need to rethink beauty for kids
You may have seen the recent NZ Herald article about girls as young as four being exposed to beauty treatments like facials, waxing, and anti-ageing products. It’s hard not to feel a bit shaken reading it — and as a mum, it really hit home.
The experts are right: young skin isn’t ready for harsh treatments or adult products. These little faces are still developing, and what we put on their skin now can have a long-term impact — both physically and emotionally.
So what’s the solution?
We don’t want to swing the other way and say no skincare at all. In fact, the tween and teen years are the perfect time to start learning how to look after your skin — in a simple, age-appropriate, and positive way.
That’s exactly why I created Holy Moly
Skincare that’s safe, natural, and fun
At Holy Moly, we’re all about:
✅ Natural, botanical ingredients - like manuka oil, aloe, and calendula
✅ No nasties — no parabens, no artificial fragrance, no harsh actives
✅ Made in NZ,
✅ Designed for tweens and teens, not mini adults
We want to teach our kids that skincare isn’t about perfection — it’s about looking after yourself, feeling good in your own skin, and learning healthy habits that stick for life.
A better beauty message for our kids
Let’s create a culture where our kids don’t feel pressure to “fix” themselves or fast-forward into adulthood. Let’s show them that real beauty isn’t about filters, facials, or 10-step routines. It’s about confidence, care, and kindness — to your skin and yourself.
